One of the most important skills your child can learn is how to regulate his emotions. Life is full of problems, both big and small, and the child who knows how to deal with his "big emotions" will be so much happier overall.
Screens are often used to soothe emotions. However, this distraction only creates more problems later if a child has not learned how to work through her feelings. This practice of avoiding difficult emotions can become especially problematic when a child is exposed to inappropriate content online. The lure of the content dulls all bad feelings in the moment, but creates shame and guilt immediately afterward.
Use this graphic organizer to help your child navigate facing the big emotions without turning to screens. Have your child fill out this worksheet for practical ideas for what to do when they are feeling “meh.”
